Building a garage on Sturgeon Lake

Under the Ontario Building Code, an accessory building larger than 10 square metres needs a building permit. The City of Kawartha Lakes sets the shoreline setback, height and size limits. A loft used for sleeping needs a safe stair, a guard, an exit window and smoke alarms. Sturgeon Lake is part of the Trent–Severn Waterway, and some lots are regulated by Kawartha Conservation.
