This waterfront home started as a cleared waterfront lot in the Kawarthas. We handled the site work, foundation, framing and finishes, and the structure for the timber-framed porch roof was engineered as part of the build.

The goal was a home that feels like it belongs on the water: dark siding, natural stone and heavy timber outside, and main rooms that face the lake inside.

01 / FROM A CLEARED LOT

From a cleared lot

When we started, the lot was cleared and nothing else. Our crew took the job from there, through the site work, the foundation, the framing and the finishes, so one team carried it from bare ground to a finished home.

From above you can see how it all fits on the lot: the house, the paver patio with its circle inlay, and the armour stone steps leading down toward the water.

02 / STONE, TIMBER AND BOARD-AND-BATTEN

Stone, timber and board-and-batten

The outside mixes dark board-and-batten siding, natural stone and heavy timber gables. The same three materials carry around the whole house, so the front and the lake side look like one design.

At the front entry, timber posts hold up the gable over a black front door, with natural stone around it and armour stone steps up from the walkway.

03 / A WALL OF WINDOWS TO THE LAKE

A wall of windows to the lake

The lake side is built around a tall wall of windows set into a stone gable, so the main rooms look straight out at the water.

Below it, the walkout lower level opens onto a paver patio, with armour stone walls holding the grade around it.

04 / THE COVERED PORCH

The covered porch

The covered porch is planned as a real room. It has a stone fireplace, timber posts and a wood ceiling, with open views to the lake.

When the wind comes off the lake in the fall, this is still where everyone ends up.

05 / ENGINEERED TIMBER ROOF, SLIDERS TO THE HOUSE

Engineered timber roof, sliders to the house

As an engineer-led builder, we had the structure for the timber-framed porch roof engineered, so the heavy timbers do real work, not just dress up the porch.

Big sliders open from the porch back into the house, linking the porch to the dining room and making it easy to move between inside and out.
