On this Kawartha Lakes property we built a new main cottage, a stone boathouse and a bunkie, renovated the guest cottage, and designed and built the landscaping. It was one team and one schedule, done in 10 months.

The idea was a place where the whole family can be together at the lake, with room to spread out. Every building on the property was planned to look and feel like it belongs with the others, from the stone and timber outside to the finishes inside.

01 / THE MAIN COTTAGE

The main cottage

The main cottage pairs natural granite stone and custom timbers with black aluminum, so it fits in with the cottages around it. Inside there's a large eat-in kitchen, a primary suite, and floor-to-ceiling windows that face the lake. Custom cabinetry with quartz tops runs through the kitchen, the bar and two entertainment centres.

The great room is the heart of the cottage. A vaulted ceiling with timber beams, a stone fireplace and tall windows frame the view, and sliding doors lead straight out to the deck.

02 / KITCHEN, DINING AND ENTERTAINING

Kitchen, dining and entertaining

The eat-in kitchen is built for a full house, with a big island, quartz counters and plenty of storage in the custom cabinetry. The dining room sits beside a stone fireplace, with a wall of sliding glass that opens onto the lake-side deck.

Downstairs, the lower level has a custom bar, room for games and big windows to the water, so there's space for everyone, even on a rainy weekend.

03 / THE BOATHOUSE

The boathouse

The boathouse matches the main cottage, with granite stone, timber posts and soffit lighting. Upstairs is an entertainment and bar space with custom-sized windows and a deck over the water.

At ground level, timber posts and a stone base frame a covered space beside the patio, and a glass-railed deck runs across the top.

04 / THE GUEST COTTAGE AND BUNKIE

The guest cottage and bunkie

The guest cottage got a vaulted wood ceiling, a new kitchen with quartz counters, and new flooring, so it feels like part of the same place.

Next to it, the new bunkie has sliding glass doors and its own cedar deck, giving guests a quiet spot of their own a few steps from the main cottage.

05 / THE LANDSCAPING

The landscaping

We designed and built the landscaping along with the buildings, so the paths, patios and grading tie everything together. Paver walkways link the main cottage, the bunkie and the guest cottage.

Natural armour stone walls and steps handle the grade, and a covered stone patio under the main deck gives a sheltered place to sit outside.

06 / ONE TEAM, ONE SCHEDULE

One team, one schedule

Building a cottage, a boathouse and a bunkie, renovating a guest cottage and landscaping the whole property is a lot to coordinate on one waterfront lot. We ran it as one project, with one team and one schedule, so the work on every building and the site was planned together from start to finish.

The whole property was finished in 10 months.
