Choosing materials for open country

On an exposed rural site, wind, sun and driving snow test a building more than in town. We favour durable cladding such as board-and-batten or fibre-cement, steel or quality shingle roofing, and deep overhangs that shelter windows and doors. These choices keep maintenance low and help the suite look at home beside barns and farmhouses rather than like a city building dropped into a field.
